A Tranquil Cardiff Bay

Cardiff Bay in the morning
This has to be one of my favourite shots of Cardiff Bay. I took it in October 2007 at about 9 in the morning. The Bay is amazingly smooth and the reflections are great. The St David’s Hotel is in the background.

The wooden structures in the foreground are called dolphins and were used to moor ships against when the bay was a full operating port. The Bay is a great place especially when you get good weather like it was on this day.

Kidwelly Castle

Kidwelly Castle gatehouseSiani is a South Wales based blogger with quite a different perspective on South Wales. She seems to do most of her travelling around the area using public transport which definitely makes her blog stand out.

Her recent post on Kidwelly Castle and the farmhouse at St. Fagans makes me realise how lucky we are to have all of these great castles in South Wales. I’ve never been to Kidwelly Castle but it looks pretty cool. Definitely worth a visit!

Bar Meal in the Bear Hotel, Cowbridge

A few days ago I met up with some old school friends from Cowbridge in the Bear Hotel in Cowbridge. I was early and had missed the earlier opportunity of a free meal in Cardiff so I decided to go for a bar meal while I waited for my friends. I decided to go for the Cajun Salmon from the daily specials menu. The meal was excellent – the salmon was cooked to perfection and the Cajun spices and sauce wasn’t too over the top. The meal cost close to £9. With a couple of pints of the Bear’s special real ale the evening went down a treat!!! Not so sure about the friends though. 🙂

South Wales Map

I know from some of the other South Wales sites that I maintain, that people new to the area are often stuck for a good online map.  I’m really into Google Maps at the moment so I’ve set up a page with an embedded South Wales map to help you along!  You can find the South Wales map page here – https://www.south-wales.org/map-of-south-wales/

Things to do in South Wales

River Ewenny

So you’re wondering what to do in South Wales?

Updated 9th June 2008: visit my Things to Do in South Wales page for even more ideas.

Here are a few of my ideas taken from my other site http://www.south-wales.info and updated.

Coed-Y-Mwstwr Hotel Bridgend

Photo of the front of the Coed-Y-Mwstwr HotelIf you’re looking for a hotel in South Wales I can thoroughly recommend the “Coed” near Bridgend. It’s run by a friend of mine so I’m a little biased, but it’s a great place to stay if you’re looking for a little comfort and piece and quiet.

It’s a country house hotel with 28 rooms in a great location – in the countryside but only 5 minutes from Bridgend and 5 minutes from the M4 motorway. It’s great for morning coffee as well – it feels quite luxurious sitting in the lounge area in the comfy chairs. A lot of my friends and colleagues rave about the place so don’t just take my word for it!

Have a look at their website for more information – http://www.coed-y-mwstwr.com/
